One-Arm Deadlift (barbell)
Bodyweight Strength - The One-arm Deadlift with a Barbell is essentially a one arm version of the Sumo Deadlift and is performed exactly like the One-arm Dumbbell Deadlift except that for this version you will use a barbell. For the starting position, start exactly a you would for the dumbbell version except that the barbell will obviously not be able to be directly under you (as the dumbbell can). Simply bring the bar as close to you as possible before you begin the lift (touching your shins) just as you would for a regular Sumo Deadlift with a barbell. This exercise will develop bodyweight strength, core strength and stability, as well as functional strength for real life. This motion is a very natural and common motion in life (squatting down and picking something up from the ground) so training it can be highly useful for real life.
The particular unique benefits of the One-arm Barbell Deadlift over the other versions of the Deadlift is the emphasis it places on core stability and control because of the fact that you are holding a long bar with only one hand and are having to stabilize the bar throughout the entire exercise. It is also a great exercise for training grip strength.
