One-arm Military Press (dumbbell)
Bodyweight Strength - This exercise is performed exactly like the One-arm Military Press (barbell) except that with the dumbbell you will start with the dumbbell facing towards you (your palm face towards you) at the bottom of the movement and then as you press the dumbbell upwards you will rotate the arm around to where the dumbbell nearly faces out and away from you at the top of the lift (allowing an absolutely complete extension of the shoulder joint at the top of the movement).
This maximum level of shoulder extension is excellent for developing shoulder flexibility and thus stability in the shoulder girdle which is crucial to developing true functional high level bodyweight strength. Doing this type of rotational movement is nearly impossible with a full length barbell because of its length and the centrifugal force that would develop as you rotated the barbell on the way up. For this reason, we do not recommend any rotation of the bar on the One-arm Military Press (barbell) for safety concerns.
