Bodyweight Strength for Women
Often times women are afraid of strength training out of a fear of becoming "bulky" or "manly". However, it has been our experience that women who utilize a bodyweight strength based approach to training end up having very toned, lean, fit looking bodies that are simultaneously functionally very strong and athletically capable.
Frequently these women will develop levels of strength that are beyond the average strength of men and yet they will still maintain their petite feminine appearance.
The bottom line is that strength does not automatically equal bulk. And strength that is based on a bodyweight strength based approach keeps the body with a performance based incentive to stay light rather than heavy.
However, that being said, this does not mean that women should not train with added weights as well. Utilizing weights typically greatly contributes significantly to the development of the muscle tone and definition that women typically desire to possess and men are typically attracted to. It merely means that keeping bodyweight strength as the foundation upon which all other strength is built will help insure that the body size is intrinsically limited to because of its requirement to stay compact and lean.
