Bench Pushups
Do not attempt this version of the Pushup until you have already mastered Bar Pushups and have progressively lowered the object you are pushing against. Once you are pushing against an object that is nearly as low as the knees, you are most likely ready to progress to Bench Pushups which is essentially the exact same exercise as Bar Pushups except that you are now pushing from a very low object (a bench in the gym) rather than a fairly high object. This puts a much larger portion of your bodyweight into the exercise and requires you to be much stronger in relation to your bodyweight than a waist height Bar Pushup does.
Once you have progressed to Bench Pushups you are not far from achieving full real Pushups on the floor. Don't rush yourself however. Take your time, keep your form and technique perfect, and allow your body to gain strength at its own natural pace and eventually you will progress to the next level (Pushups).
For detailed technique on performing Bench Pushups please refer to the exercise descriptions for Bar Pushups and regular Pushups.
